Japan’s Eco-Model Cities program, started in 2008, has proven, for the most part, successful.  An aggressive gas reduction goal is trying to be met by 13 urban areas.  Each area is using different strategies to accomplish gas reduction.  Yokohama is working towards zero carbon and renewable energy goals, while Chiyoda, home of Japan’s Imperial Palace, is aiming for a decreased volume of auto commuters.  Other areas are focusing efforts on zero waste and solar charging infrastructure.
