Spider silk is extremely strong. It’s strength is superior to high grade steel and as strong as Twaron or Kevlar (aramid filaments). It’s strength is complimented by the fact that it is very lightweight and stretchable. It can stretch up to 140% of its length without breaking and can hold its strength in temperatures of -40 degrees celcius. That makes spider silk very tough and equal to commercial aromatic nylon filaments, which are used in modern polymer fiber technology.
