Steel starts off as iron ore, coke (pure carbon from coal), and limestone, all of which are placed in a blast furnace. From there, the iron is combined with pieces of steel scrap, and then exposed to a jet of pure oxygen. Finally, other metals are added in to form steel alloy, which is then degassed and cast.
