San Francisco has their Annual World Naked Bike Ride which is primarily used to protest against the use of fossil fuels. Two of these bike rides occur: one in June, the other in March.
Another way cities are encouraging the use of bicycles is to retrofit buses with bike racks, and allowing bikes on commuter trains. This alongside more bike racks in more places and bike lanes are bringing a lot of attention to how using a bike in the city could be more convenient.
There are several campaigns and initiatives to make San Francisco a more bike friendly city. One of the more ambitious ones is designing bike paths completely separated from automobile traffic and can be used by bicylists of all ages. Other initiatives include organized bike rides around the city to locate and mark uneven and unsafe pavement and potholes.
