How safe are radioactive batteries?

For the most part, yes. Only a very small amount of radioactive material is used in them, and the power does not come from a nuclear reaction, so there is no danger of explosion or meltdown. However, there is concern that the proper battery casing will be difficult to find, and also that the batteries will need to be specially disposed of, something consumers don’t always comply with.
