There are multi-colored streaks on the bark of the tree.
The “rainbow” refers to the many colors displayed at one time in the tree bark. The reason for this unusual and beautiful pattern is that the tree sheds bark in different places at different times throughout the year. The bark is green when first exposed, but turns blue to purple, to orange, and to maroon as it ages. This picture really brings out the rainbow, I think:
