Given the right location and nutrients, Bamboo can grow about 12 inches a day. This also depends on the species, and time of year, etc.
Bamboo is the fastest-growing woody plant in the world. There are over 1,000 species of bamboo—some reaching heights of 40m! Bamboo grows from an underground stem, called a rhizome. It is from the rhizome that the bamboo shoots sprout and grow from. Most bamboo species reach maturity between 4-5 years.
Some species of bamboo grow so quickly that you can literally see them grow. One species native to Japan grows 119cm in 24 hours!
I know this about bamboo. If some one wants to plant bamboo in the yard. It would be wise to only plant it in a large pot that way hopefully it won,t take over everything. You can still enjoy its beauty. It does grow fast and spread.
