The Tsunami of 2004 is one of the largest recorded natural disasters in history. The earthquake deep beneath the Indian Ocean that triggered the wave alone was massive, measuring a 9.0 on the Richter Scale. Estimates suggest that the tsunami’s force was equal to 5 megatons of TNT, more than twice of all used in World War II. The force also exceeds the largest nuclear explosion by more than 1000 times.
