How is population growth and habitat loss connected?

The more people there are in this world, the more resources are required to sustain the lives of those people.  With world population rates steadily climbing (7 billion and growing to be exact), logging, road contruction, home building, agriculture, increased forest fires due to climate change all are a result of over-population, and reflect the impact that has on the environment.

As a community grows, more space is needed to accomodate everybody. Houses have to be built, stores have to be opened, community infrastructure such as gas stations and schools have to be constructed, and everything else that comes with a growing community. These all take room to build, so space must be created. Every tree cut down is another small habitat lost. Over time, many trees and other eco-systems such as swamps will be reformed into parking lots and malls, among other things.
