Depending on the location, the species, and the type of pollution, there are many potential effects. Some kinds of birds lay eggs with thinner shells when they’ve been exposed to heavy metals, DDT, and other pesticides. Direct pollution such as oil spills can coat the skins of marine animals, in some cases poisoning them or making movement more difficult. Pollution is harmful to humans, another animal, because we consume smaller animals which may in turn have breathed or eaten toxic material.
