Plywood is made by laying thin pieces of wood in different directions, and gluing them together to make a laminated board. These boards are made up of odd-numbered wood layers, referred to as plies, to make the surface grain parallel. This technique makes these boards stronger than natural wood by making them less likely to shrink or expand.
