One technique is to reintroduce traditional specied into the area in the hopes that the grazing will help return the land to normal levels.  This is based on the idea that herbivores will cause grasses to grow and dry some of the landscape.  Some scientists think that this wont work and instead suggest that grasses be introduced first.
