Fossil water is considered to be ancient freshwater or paleowater that was created thousands of years ago. The aquifers that are being tapped currently in Libya are said to be at least 75,000 years old. Some aquifers that contain fossil water have been dated back eons, which means that they were present before any fossil record of life here in Earth.
