California condors have a remarkably long lifespan of, on average, 60 years. However, mortality rates are high from accidental death for those few still living in the wild. Examples of such deaths are common in areas where humans heavily populate, as powerlines are an especially dangerous threat.
On average, California Condors live between 40 and 80 years. Condors in the wild, however, do not average much longer than 40 years. The oldest Condor in captivity was born in 1966, 45 years old.
