Envirnmental policies are not updated on any schedule, but rather as they become outdated. For instance, the Clean Water Act, one of the cornerstones of American environmental legislation was first enacted in 1972. Since it was not very efficient in quelling contamination of major water sources, is was subsequently amended in 1977 and 1987, however has not seen any major changes since. This is a trend in envirnmental regulatiomns, usually they are enacted and heavily corrected i the first decade before it can be effective in its actions.
