Rams butt heads whenever males are challenging each other for either dominance or mating rights. They butt heads more in the mating season because only the dominant rams are privileged with breeding and the rams will fight hard for this right. They can charge at around 20 mph and the ramming can last for hours at a time. It ends when one gets too tired and walks away. It’s difficult to put an exact frequency on the act, but I hope this sort of answers the question.
