18 of the 31 current NFL stadiums have grass fields. How often a field needs to be re-sodded depends on the quality of the field and how easily it gets torn up. In a survey of NFL players on the quality of NFL fields, Pittsburgh’s Heinz stadium was voted as having the worst grass field. Its grass required frequent re-sodding after contests were held on the field. Chicago’s Soldier Field, voted the third worst grass field, is re-sodded up to three times a season by the city’s park district.
