Meteors that survive the Earth’s atmosphere and hit the planet are called meteorites. There are two ways to classify them – falls, which are observed falling to the Earth, and finds, which are meteorites found on Earth. As of 2006, there were 1,050 witnessed falls and over 31,000 finds.
