Grunion runs occur mostly between the months of March and August with the peak season lasting from April through June. The grunions are very predictable, which allows their runs to be predicted a year in advance. Grunions will run anywhere from 4-8 in a month, depending on the timing. The Department of Fish and Game was able to predic their runs for the entire running season for 2009.
Grunion runs happen fairly regularly from March through August with several runs occurring during each month. They can also occasionally happen in February and September, although peak times for grunion runs are between late March and early June.
