How often do cities have to test their water for harmful bacteria?

    Cities typically report tests on their drinking water on an annual basis.  The EPA tests for coliform bacteria – found in animal waste and in soil – as a standard.  That is primarily the only type of bacteria that bodies of water are commercially tested for.
