It is recommended that bamboo be harvested annually at the end of the rainy season and beginning of the dry season.
Knowing when and how to harvest bamboo is crucial, for if bamboo is not harvested correctly, it can deteriorate much faster and be more susceptible to parasites. Bamboo contains a substantial amount of starch, which parasites thrive on for nutrients. During the dry season, starch reaches its highest level. That being said, it would not be wise to harvest bamboo during this time. During the rainy season, starch content is low. However, moisture, which could increase splitting and cracking of the bamboo, is at its highest content during the rainy season. Therefore, it is recommended that harvesting should take place between the end of the rainy season and beginning of the dry season.
