How is the non profit sector more green than the for profit sector?

The not for profit sector tends to be more efficient than the profit sector because there is simply less financial wiggle room. Non profits are less likely to buy disposable items and keep replacing them because they cannot afford this kind of practice. Non profit businesses that struggle with heating costs are more likely to favor sweaters over turning up the thermostat and end up using less energy. There can also be a different mentality in non profit organizations that promotes social and environmental responsibility rather than profit industries that push the bottom line. That said, there are many for profit organizations that have made big steps in becoming more green and that have more capital to invest in big changes.
