How is the Navy bringing solar power to pearl harbor?

The Navy has contracted with a local company to install solar panels on the roofs of five buildings at their Pearl harbor station. These solar panels are projected to power 440 homes on the base. This is important because the state of Hawaii does not have a lot of fossil fuels, so power is expensive. The program is estimated to save 5,667 barrels of oil per year, preventing 3,118 tons of carbon dioxide from being released into the environment.
