Navy sonar has been linked to the death of whales. There are two theories of how this occurs. The first states that whales’ sonar detectors are damaged by high-intensity Navy sonar. The combination of the resultant disorientation and pain ends with whales beaching themselves. The second theory states that the loudness of Navy sonar causes similar confusion; as a result, whales come to the surface too quickly. The Navy affects travel patterns of whales, as the latter becomes notably disoriented to the point where death can occur.
