Energy can be harnessed from natural hot springs by Geothermal Power Stations. There are typically three kinds: “dry steam”, “flash steam”, and “binary-cycle”. Dry steam directly uses the hot steam to turn a turbine and flash steam depressurizes hot water, or flashes it, into steam to use in the same fashion. The binary system is more recent, approximately two decades old, but can convert water of a lower temperature into steam to generate energy as well.
Hot springs can be used to heat buildings from their natural heat or they can also be connected to a turbine that is connected to a generator that makes electricity. There is a very descriptive image in the attached link.
