How much would we cut down on CO2 emmissions if we got rid of drive through fast food restaurants?

Idling is responsible for an immense amount of CO2 production (93 million tons of CO2 emissions in the US annually.) A car that idles 5 minutes per day is responsible for between 220-440 pounds of CO2 annually depending on the model. While these numbers show how destructive drive thrus can be, estimating the total amount of CO2 produced is difficult. However, one study has suggested that Steak ‘n Shake customers release 1,680 metric tons of CO2 annually by utilizing drive thrus in their 502 restaurants between the hours of 12pm and 1 pm.
