In pretty much every report available, you’ll find that solar power fits under the “other” category, which is typically 3% or less. Therefore, you could say that solar power accounts for less than 1% of world energy usage.
However, what these graphs do not show is the amount of solar energy harnessed by solar ovens for the purposes of cooking or heating bath water… or drying clothes for that matter (technically drying clothes on a line is a combination of wind and solar energy.) Most charts only show enery obtained from photovoltaic cells.
According to nationalgeographic.com, solar energy actually accounts for less than .1% of the global energy supply, though there is enough energy provided by the sun every hour to supply the world for an entire year.
