India currently emits abound 1.6 billion tons of CO2 every year, but with the growing industrial sector emissions are expected to rise to 6.5 billion by 2030. Programs to cut CO2 emissions would actually focus on limiting the growth of emissions, so that by 2030 India’s emissions are only 2.8 billion tons.
The cost of halving India’s carbon emissions by 2030 could be as much as $1.1 trillion. This is approximately 2.3% of India’s GDP.
