How much water does it take to get 1 kW of energy from a hydropower plant?

The energy produced – measured in Watts – is equal to (head: measured in meters) times (flow: measured in liters per second) times (gravity: 9.81 meters/second).  A site where head is less than ten meters is considered a low head site, and above twenty meters constitutes a high head site.  Assuming 15 meters of head, 1 kW of energy would equate to 6.8 liters per second.
