The average family of four uses about 400 gallons of water every day and on average, approximately 70% of the water is used indoors. About 27% of the water used indoors is used by the toilet, as the bathroom is the largest consumer of indoor water.
The average American household uses 127,400 gallons of water a year — 350 gallons a day. Over 50% of the estimated daily water usage comes from toilets, showers and faucets. The U.S. could reduce its annual water consumption by 5.4 billion gallons a day if each household installed water conserving fixtures.
