Good question, branson99. Each year, 7 states (California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona) and Mexico withdraw about 20,352 million cubic meters (16.5 million acre-feet) of water from the Colorado River.

Another way of looking at it: We take almost all the water out of the Colorado River, so that at best a tiny trickle reaches the Gulf of California.
