How much water can we save by flushing our toilets only once a day?

A toilet generally flushes 3.5 gallons per flush.  Assuming that the average American flushes a toilet five times a day, reducing that rate to one flush per day would save 4 x 3.5 = 14 gallons of water a day.  Toilets account for the most water usage of all household utilities.
