Efficient or low flow shower heads put out water at the same pressure but at a slower rate so the shower still has pressure but you are using considerably less water. Shower heads have been made recently to put out 6 to 8 gallons per minute (GPM) and new low flow head put out 2.4 gpm. This obviously adds to to tens of gallons in one shower alone.
An exact answer to this question requires knowing how long your personal showers last. On average, low flow shower heads can create water savings from 20% – 60%. With the numbers stated in the previous answer, it can be assumed that most of the low flow shower heads will save you as much as 12 gallons of water per shower.
