How much waste does a nuclear power plant make each year?

A typical nuclear power plant produces 25-30 tonnes of spent fuel (waste) in a year. This waste is highly radioactive and there is little more we can with it other than permanently store it. According to the EPA it would take about 10,000 years of radioactive decay before it was safe for public health.
