According to a number of sources, 350 million disposable lighters are thrown away every year in America alone. Considering that these lighters probably still contain some lighter fluid in them, they fall under the category of “household hazardous waste” and must be disposed of properly in accordance with EPA guidelines. If you have lighters with fluid still in them that you wish to dispose of, contact your local recycling center and ask them where the nearest state-certified hazardous waste disposal center is.
