How much warmer are penguins because they huddle together?

Penguins need to keep a core body temperature of about 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. This can be difficult in the Arctic where temperatures drop to -22 degrees Fahrenheit in winter months. Penguins huddle together, rotating from the outside of the huddle to the inside, to maintain their core temperature. A penguin not huddling in these conditions will burn .2kg of fat to stay warm, while a huddling penguin will only burn .1kg.
