According to a Sri Lankan news source, the Japanese are the largest consumer and importer of fish. They suggest that Japanese spend an average of $77 on tuna each year.In the Mediterranian, at least, 80-85% of the tuna caught is sent to Japan.

There has been much buzz lately about the Bluefin tuna being fished to dangerously low numbers, due to its popular taste.
