The earth’s atmosphere absorbs all of the high-energy X-rays; likewise, most of the UV radiation is blocked by the thermosphere, mesosphere, and stratosphere. Approximately 6% of visible light is reflected and 16% is absorbed by the atmosphere. Also, the clouds in the lower atmosphere reflect approximately 20% and absorb approximately 3% of visible light.
