Solar power in the United States is not the largest available energy source for the United States. In 2006, it only accounted less than 0.1% of electricity generation. Renewable energy in general provided nearly 12 percent of the nation’s electricity power in 2003. In 2008, it was shown that U.S. solar energy capacity increased by 17% the last year, reaching the total equivalent of 8,775 megawatts.
