How much of Russia is covered by permafrost?

    Sixty percent of Russia is currently categorized as permafrost (see below). But with warming trends being tracked there since the 1960’s, there is concern that as the ice melts, the landscape of Russia will be drastically altered. More importantly, the melting is creating high amounts of methane, which could actually accelerate global warming by fueling overall greenhouse effect.
