How much energy is required to turn on a regular incandescent light?

Just to get it going, that is. And how does this energy compare to the regular energy consumption? Does it waste more energy to flip the light on and off over and over again than to simply leave it on?

This question does not have just one answer because the amount of energy used by an incandescent light bulb depends on the size of the bulb. The amount of energy depends on the wattage of the bulb, and the higher the wattage, the more energy a bulb requires. The amount of energy used by a light bulb is measured in kilowatt hours. The government is hoping to phase out incandescent bulbs as they use substantially more energy than more efficient varieties of bulbs.
