How much REM sleep do you need to be rested?

    It is recommended that the average adult get a full 8 hours of sleep to wake up feeling rested and refreshed.  Over the course of this 8 hours, about 2 1/2 to 3 hours of rem sleep occurs.  So I would say you would need between 2 1/2 to 3 hours of rem sleep to be rested.
