China in particular is expected to build 600 gigawatts worth of coal power plants in the next 25 years alone -that’s as much as all coal power currently in the United States, the European Union and Japan put together. So even as rich countries make commitments to scale back on coal, global coal use is almost certain to increase in the coming years.
