How much energy from power plants is lost as waste energy?

It is estimated that 7% of electricity is lost in transit from the power plant to their customers. A “smart grid” is often the term used when addressing these problems with grid inefficiency. It’s estimated that 26 billion tax dollars annually could be saved by effectively getting rid of this problem. This is not only good for the environment, but good for the economy.
