Huge amounts of energy are used to run fast food restaurants since they are running 24 hours or close to it every day. Lighting and air conditioning/heating account for about 25-40% of the energy use and then refrigeration account for 40-50% of the total energy use. There are new techniques being used to try and cut down on energy usage such as sensors to make sure refrigerator/freezer doors get shut all the way.
