New York City is estimated to consume about 11,000 megawatts of energy per day. That is enough to power 11 million homes! Think about the structure of New York: it must use electricity for giant skyscrapers and underground subway networks, while providing energy for all those houses, restaurants, and other businesses. The amount of energy the city consumes is incredible, but with such a dense population, it is not surprising.
