Hydroelectric power is already being utilized as a source of energy in California.  43,625 gigawatt-hours of energy was produced by hydroelectric power plants in 2007, making up 14.5% of the total energy generated.  California has around 400 hydro plants that create this energy for use in the state.  There is definite potential for growth as the technology develops.
