Water resources of the Philippines can be classified into freshwater (rivers, lakes, and groundwater) and marine (bay and oceanic waters). Just over 36% of the Philippines’ river systems are categorized as water supply, whereas up to 58% of groundwater is contaminated and requires treatment. During the dry season, there is a shortage of water in highly populated areas.
