How much paper does one family go through in a year?

The average American uses approximately one 100-foot-tall fir tree or 7 smaller individual trees in paper and other products made from trees annually. The average American family size consists of 3.14 members, so the average American family consumes nearly 22 trees worth of paper and other products made from trees each year.

Also worth noting is that the average American household disposes of 13,000 separate pieces of paper every year. Most of the paper that is thrown away consists of junk mail and packaging.
