It is estimated that of the Earth contains 332,500,000 cubic miles of water. About 321,000,000 mi3 of that water is stored in oceans. This amounts to about 96.5 percent. It is also estimated that the oceans supply about 90 percent of the evaporated water that goes into the water cycle.
Also, note that the ice caps at the poles actually contain about 80% of the world’s freshwater. So, 96.5% ocean water, and 80% of the remaining freshwater is in ice caps. That makes only a tiny 0.7% of the world’s water in our lakes, rivers, and streams.
